Oil giant BP has today said its third quarter results will be delayed by one week because of account complexities relating to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The company said its results will be published on 2 November, rather than 26 October and a spokesperson said because of the “complex accounting issues associated with the Gulf of Mexico spill it’s prudent to allow a bit more time”.
The announcement comes just days after BP issued a report which apportioned blame among itself and several other companies with regard to the major oil leak.
Clean-up costs relating to the spill have soared and has now reached $8 billion (£5.1 billion).
In order to fund the operation, the company is disposing of $30 billion worth of assets.
