StatoilHydro resumes production on Statfjord A

StatoilHydro resumes production on Statfjord A

Production resumed on the Statfjord A platform today, 28 May,, after four days of shutdown due to an oil leak Saturday 24 May.

The oil leak which occurred last Saturday led to an immediate production shutdown and a part of the crew was evacuated.

As soon as the situation allowed, efforts began to stop the leak and at the same time extensive oil spill response work was initiated. The crew members could soon return to the platform.

Production on the Snorre A platform and the Vigdis field, which were also shut down due to the incident on Statfjord A, was resumed Sunday.

During the last few days the crew on Statfjord A has been busy preparing the platform for start-up.

We are very pleased that the incident did not cause any injuries, and that we are on stream again, says head of Statfjord production, Lars Petter Lundahl.

The organisation has done a fantastic job on examining the equipment and preparing for start-up. I would also like to praise our emergency response organisation who participated during the incident, both on board Statfjord A and onshore.

The incident will be investigated by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway and StatoilHydro.
