Gorgon receives federal environmental approval

Chevron Corporation was advised of the Federal Minister for the Environment’s decision to issue Australian government environmental approval for the Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) development proposal located off the northwest coast of Australia.
George Kirkland, executive vice president, Upstream and Gas said that Chevron recognizes both the state and federal governments’ thorough environmental review process. This environmental approval is based on four years of extensive work and collaboration, which included a wide range of local and global scientific experts, conservation groups and government agencies.
The Federal Minister for the Environment’s decision follows state environmental approval received from the West Australian Minister for the Environment earlier in September.
